Ama Daetz is an American journalist, who serves as an evening anchor on at ABC7 News in San Francisco. Previously, she worked as an anchor for FOX affiliate KTXL-TV based in Sacramento, California.

Ama was born on 18 March 1979 in San Jose, California to American parents. She has two sisters named Effie Daetz and Ekua Daetz. Her father Denny Daetz is a retired teacher, who taught social studies economics, computer programming, and computer applications at Saratoga High School in Saratoga, California. He now serves as the President of The Akwaaba Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to fostering world peace and sustainable international economic development through education.

Her parents divorced later and her father Denny remarried Laura Lee Daetz in January 2001. Meanwhile, her stepmother worked as a senior executive in human resources in the commercial property management industry for more than 25 years.

Daetz attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. There, she earned her BA in Communications Studies, graduating in 2001.

Career Summary

Ama began her career in 2001, joining the Fox-affiliated KMPH-TV in Fresno, California. At KMPH-TV, she produced medical segments for daily newscasts and also wrote and edited breaking news. In July 2002, she joined the CBS-affiliated KFDA-TV and worked as an anchor and reporter.

Daetz then moved WWMT-TV in Kalamazoo, Michigan anchoring radio newscasts and television and radio tease. In 2006, she joined an NBC-affiliated WDIV-TV as the weekend morning anchor. During her three years tenure at WDIV-TV, she anchored weekday morning and weekend evening news program. In 2009, she moved to Sacramento, California, and started to work as a reporter for the Fox-affiliated KTXL-TV. Later, she was promoted to an anchor for the morning show.

After working for two years, she left the station to join ABC7 News, also known KGO-TV in August 2011. For the first two years, she worked as a weekend anchor and reporter. She is now the primary anchor of ABC7 News at 4 p.m., 6 p.m., 9 p.m., and 11 p.m.

The anchor has been married to her boyfriend John Seymour for more than seven years. The duo tied the wedding knot on 12 September 2012. Afterward, they spent their honeymoon in Italy.

They started dating after meeting in the ABC7 News. John is a cinematographer with over 15 years of experience. He now works as a sports cinematographer at NBC Sports Bay Area & California.
